“State of Street Art: Mission and Market” (SF Chronicle)
Arts writer, Kimberly Chun, takes a look at current street art showing in San Francisco, starting with ROA‘s “Dominant Species,” at 941 Geary, in her Wednesday column of the SF Chronicle:
“Rats! The hardy vermin made their presence known among the images of highly targetable critters, down-home taxidermy and immersive urban American gothic going down Saturday at the opening of ROA‘s “Dominant Species” at 941 Geary. Partygoers made their way in via a trashed-out tunnel of generalized junk to encounter paintings of rodents, raccoons, rabbits and other unfortunate huntables rendered on, say, metal punctured with bullet holes. The Belgian-born street artist’s wild kingdom is said to be his largest U.S. installation to date and imparts a dark tale of animal exploitation, both high and low.”
Dominant Species will be on display until November 3rd, with 941 Geary open Tuesday -Saturday, 12pm to 5pm.
